GROUP DESCRIPTION: Castle Rock Writers is a critique group for published and unpublished writers working in all genres. Each writer may bring up to five pages of material to read aloud. This might be poems, an article, a short story, a children's story, or a selection from a novel or non-fiction book.
WORKSHOPPING: Participants who wish to read are asked to arrive with an extra six to eight copies. double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. After a reading, the group gives positive and constructive feedback. Time permitting, writers may read additional work. Manuscripts are returned to their owners that same evening. Bringing a manuscript each week is not required: New writers may learn from hearing others read, but they will be encouraged to write.
HISTORY OF CASTLE ROCK WRITERS: Elizabeth Wallace, non-fiction and fiction writer and member of the Denver Women’s Press Club, formed Castle Rock Writers in 1999. Under her direction in 2005, the group wrote and produced the book, Douglas County, Colorado: A Photographic Journey, for the Douglas County Library Foundation. The book is still sold at area libraries. Proceeds have helped to fund the annual Douglas County Libraries Writers Conference.
NOTE: If school is cancelled for Douglas County High School feeder area due to weather OR if the library is closed, the meeting is automatically cancelled.
